When you think of sustainable packaging, you likely think of easy-to-recycle packaging, efforts to reduce plastic usage & creating packaging using plastic alternatives, like fiber and paper-based options. That’s all true, but another part of sustainability moves past the materials used; it encompasses the full lifecycle of the pack.
Today, CPGs are leveraging sustainability efforts beyond the pack, including changing how how-to-recycle information is delivered, from watermarks to QR codes, and scalable initiatives for improved waste management infrastructure. Today’s CPGs are also exploring reusing existing packs, including refillable options for alcoholic beverages, as well as upcycling initiatives for packages that cannot be recycled but instead are formed into something new.
