This marks the fourth year that this scholarship has been awarded in conjunction with Packaging World ’s Leaders in Packaging (LIP) program. Companies who participate in LIP are supporters of this annual educational award.
MSU’s School of Packaging has a substantial track record of providing high-quality undergrad, graduate, and continuing education that advances the science and technology of packaging. Throughout more than five decades of development, the school has built significant research expertise and earned national and international recognition in physical distribution and protective packaging. The school is also well known as a leader in the areas of permeability and migration, shelf life, food packaging, product/package compatibility, tamper evidence, and legibility.
Collaboration and industry outreach are also strong suits at the school, which is uniquely positioned to create and disseminate valuable knowledge in packaging science and technology that empowers the people around the world to make more informed decisions and enjoy improved quality of life. Students are exposed to the international packaging community through MSU’s nation-leading study abroad program, too.
More than half of all packaging graduates employed in the U.S. come from MSU. Academic offerings include bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degree programs in packaging, not to mention certificate programs and an on-line master’s degree aimed at mid-career professionals.
“We congratulate Michigan State on being selected as the recipient of this 2015 scholarship,” says Joe Angel, President and CEO of Summit Media Group, of which Packaging World is a part. “The education of the next generation of packaging professionals is essential, and we’re honored to recognize MSU’s efforts.”
